Can You Hear Me?

“Can You Hear Me?” is a Solar Etching Print made using two plates placed side by side on the press. I made a transparency for each plate. The bird, a spotted towhee, which is often in my yard in Prescott, I drew onto one transparency with black ink and the birds on the right plate I created in my computer from a photograph I had taken printing it onto the other transparency. I exposed each copper, chemically coated plate in the sun under the transparencies, stopping the process with running water. I inked the left, towhee plate a la poupee, keeping the colors separate. The other I inked with a viscosity method of using more than one color and only one pass through the press avoiding having the colors mix together. Finally, I dried and flattened the print.
